Broken Social Scene: s/t

So after trying to get the new Broken Social Scene pre-release and finally just accepting that wasn't going to happen and I buckled down and finally managed to get my hands on a copy. And let me tell you, it is good times. This CD is more than damn good, it's excellent. You Forgot It In People is a much more mellow experience, but this s/t takes facets of modern rocks and puts a Broken Social Scene twist on it that can't really be described. When I saw them at Summerstage during July and they played a few songs off their new album(one being It's All Gonna Break which is worth going to see them for alone, seeing how they turned it into an almost 20 minute spectacle) I knew that good things were being brewed up by these guys, but not even the magnitude of that show prepared me for how great this album is. Starting off with that rock feel, mellowing out in the middle of the album and finally descending into this amazing jazzy groove at the end, the spectrum of styles that this album encompasses shows you how those 11 members can truly pull together to make something so incredibly good.

Currently on a national and soon to be UK tour, BSS is embracing the amazingly positive reaction that the fans are giving this album and running with it. I heavily recommend you hit up one of these shows because these guys are just mind-blowing live and seeing such a large group of people able to coordinate themselves with such intricacy on stage while making amazing music at the same time is touching, to say the least.

I especially like the whole flow and pace of the album, and I feel like all the songs are in the perfect order. Personal favorites: "Looks Just Like The Sun," **"Pacific Theme," "Anthems For A Seventeen-year Old Girl," and "Almost Crimes." That's a lot, I know, but there's so much to love. <3
