It's that time again and the May mix has arrived. Not a vast assortment of artists but a hell of a lotta sound if I may say so. Also featuring a Toronto based noise/drone/psych artist who will actually be my first release on the record label which I'm starting....but more on that later.

April Mix: Talking to Shadows

This month's mix is a psychedelic romp celebrating the wonderful spring weather and experiences. But before the mix some news....

Everyone should check out Robert Horton's newest project Egghatcher, which recently had a cd-r on Ruralfaune. Ruralfaune also just released a killer CD-R from the Brooklyn based, psych fuzz ensemble of Heavy Winged. Also recommended. Check those here. And in Robert Horton related news, he has a new project with Brad and Eden of Digitalis Industries which is called Eastern Fox Squirrels and they just finished the artwork and mastering, with a release planned on Last Visible Dog sometime this summer.

Hush Arbors aka Keith Woods, who I recently saw perform with Wooden Wand & The Enablers has new material coming as well, with his contribution to the Modern Containment CD-R series on 3lobedrecords, as well as a new LP on the Harvest Recordings entitled Since We Have Fallen. All Hush Arbors material is essential, right now if you can find his recent CD on Digitalis(a repressing of his first cd-r release), it's a must buy.

Ex-Cocaine is two stoned dudes from Montana, or somewhere around there. They just had an awesome release on Heavy Tapes called "Age of Times", and also have an LP on KillerTree Recordings called "Keep America Mellow" which is going to have it's second pressing soon. They're playing on WFMU right as I post this, and they were one of my favorite acts at No Fun Fest. Some seriously heavy, seriously psychedelic bongo/guitar jams. Incredible, check it out.

James Blackshaw/WFMU Archives

James Blackshaw is a 23 year old out of the UK making incredible psychedelia on the 12 string guitar. Blackshaw is incredible at combining drone, ragas, minimalism and incredible talent to make beautiful sound. In my opinion not only is he the next Jack Rose, but he is beyond him. With releases on both Digitalis and Important Records already, Blackshaw will be quick to make his mark.

I've talked about the BSR 'Phoning it In' archives before, but only a few days ago did I stumble upon the treasure trove that is the WFMU archives. These archives contain some of the greatest and rarest live performances out there, from Ghost to Diane Cluck. I've been listening to Black Forest/Black Sea, Marissa Nadler, the Finnish collective, Diane Cluck, Tom Carter, Scorces, Jack Rose, and many others. It's easy to get lost in all the sounds that this has to offer. Worth spending a few hours or even days digging through. WFMU is 90.1/91.1, if you're in the NY area, it is the only radio station you be listening to. If you're not in the NY area, then you just shouldn't be listening to the radio, because you don't have WFMU.

The weekend, yeah yeah.

So this weekend I went all the way uptown to an Excepter show at Columbia. Columbia is maybe the worst place to have a show at(because who really wants to go uptown), but it was good fun nonetheless. Excepter shows generally are. JFR and Porkchop did their crazy thing and it was funny being at an Excepter while sitting on couches in the lounge of a dorm at Columbia. Different, but still cool. The crowd wasn't into it too much...but it was Columbia, not sure what to expect.

Blues Control and Imaginary People opened, and Blues Control were nothing special, but it was Imaginary People's first show and I was very impressed by parts of their set. A drum-guitar-synth trio playing improv free-noise/drone, at times they weren't fully together and the sound lost that special something, but I was nonetheless impressed, especially for a first show. Playing your first show at a place like Columbia is a little strange, but they had fun, even though the crowd didn't seem particularly receptive. When they get a MySpace I'll put it up, definitely a band to watch out for once they develop and start getting to know each other.

Of course I also made a trip to Other Music and picked up some great stuff, new and old. First was Kyrgyz, the newest release on Digitalis. Kyrgyz is the quartet of Tom Carter(Charalambides), Robert Horton, Loren Chasse(Jewelled Antler) and Christine Boepple. This album is everything and more that you could expect from a collabaration between these great artists. Utilizing almost every instrument known to man, Carter and Horton bring in the incredible ethereal drones while Chasse and Boepple layer it with incredible instrumentation using bells to hurdy gurdys. Listening to this album it is easy to get lost within the walls of psychedelia that are created, and it can be a wonderful feeling. Highly recommended.

Second was Alejandra & Aeron - Scotch Monsters, their only release not on their Lucky Kitchen label, but on Softlmusic. I've raved about them before, and I feel that this is some of their strongest work, a concept album about the wild spirits of Scotland, it really does capture the harmony of nature.

Next was August Born, a side project of Ben Chasny with Hiroyuki Usui. I was somewhat underwhelmed, but I had very high expectations. Ben doesn't stray far from his Six Organs sound on this, but Usui's field recordings, droning guitar and very unique vocals create an interesting sound which certainly deserves some notice. I'd recommend most Six Organs albums over this, but like all Chasny side projects it's worth checking just to see what he can do.

Finally was a release I'd been meaning to pick up for a while, The Blithe Sons - Arm of the Starfish. Although I'd been told this was a stronger album than We Walk the Young Earth, I have to disagree. While certainly a good showing from Chasse and Donaldson, I disagree with those who herald Arm as the most impressive Blithe Sons album. Not to discourage you from buying this, but I'd recommend picking up We Walk the Young Earth before Arm of the Starfish. Their brand of dark and beautiful psychedelia comes through much clearer on We Walk, but both are beautiful albums. A good release. Recommended.

I also snagged the Flying cd-r, because I had heard the name dropped on several occasions from sources that I trust. It was...different than I expected, not exactly my thing, but I can't totally discredit it. Check them out at www.flyingflyingflying.com.

Oh man Brooklyn... just what is your deal exactly? Do people just come to you to make awesome music and jam and have a good time? Oh yeah, they do. Hrm. Aa is doing just that(living in Brooklyn and jamming that is), and they're doing it incredibly well.

Aa is 5 guys making totally percussive based jams, complete with effected drums and shouted vocals. Not quite noise and not quite rock, it's some of the wildest music to witness, or at least as far as I can tell from the video on their myspace. Next weekend they're having a show at the Syrup Room in Williamsburg East Industrial Park, and I'll be there to witness them for myself and so should you. Check out their myspace for mp3s and a really awesome video. Their website has a full discography, and keep an eye out for a new album(which a friend tells me is titled 2000) on Narnack Records, as well as a few splits on Kill Shaman and Deathbomb Arc.

Gem of the Past

There are some musicians who seem to intentionally stay obscure, only wanting their music to be heard by those who try very hard to find it. Virginia Astley certainly is one of these. Making music from 1983-96, her albums were almost all sold in Japan on very limited vinyl editions. Now it's almost impossible to find any of her music, and I doubt that she has any objection to people downloading it since almost everything she's done is out of print or impossible to find without paying crazy prices or getting incredibly lucky in a record store.

I first heard Astley on a mix a friend gave me, and from that one track I was immediately entranced. Astley makes music that feels like a garden on a warm spring day, with beautiful, minimal instrumentation and lush melodies. It awakes a range of emotions, from joy to something so beautiful it's sad. I only have her debut, From Gardens Where We Feel Secure, but apparently her later stuff is somewhat more synthesized and employs vocal which can be very dark. The debut is instrumental and soothing, and really incredible to listen to. If you can find it online it's a must download. But for now here a few tracks off that debut... if you have anything else by her PLEASE contact me.

Certain artists leave a truly lasting impression upon the initial listen. It has to be special and the sound truly has to mean something, but it's possible. A few days ago when I listened to the first Alejandra & Aeron track off their album Be Mine, I knew I had found music which really meant something to me. Alejandra & Aeron are Alejandra Salinas and Aeron Bergman, sound artists who make use of interviews, field recordings, advanced electronics and simple tone. What they make is beautiful and sweet, innocent and incadacent, even ephemereal at times. Yet the beautiful soundscapes and songs that A&A create also feel heavier than any physical weight. They take you to another place where every emotion is discarded and you are refurbished with a new state of being, if only temporarily. From what I've heard, these two really can do no wrong.

A&A also run the independent sound art/avant-garde label Lucky Kitchen. Lucky Kitchen features artists who specialize in field recordings, ambience, free jazz, electronic art, essentially running the gamut of the experimental and avant. Although I have not had the chance to hear any of the other artists besides A&A on LK, I plan on purchasing some of their catalog in the near future, and I suggest you do to.

Alejandra & Aeron get my highest recommendation and I encourage you to check out the audio samples, because it will be worth your time.

New Wooden Wand Project

If you don't know the extremely prolific Wooden Wand and His Various Members yet, well, you should. With over 30 related releases since 2003 on a variety of labels, they're becoming hard to ignore. Many of these older releases are getting reissues on Troubleman Unlimited or 5RC, and are worth finding along with their newer releases.

The newest Wooden Wand project is Wooden Wand and The Sky High Band. The Sky High Band features Clay Ruby, leader of the up and coming psych-folk group Davenport, and Jewelled Antler associates Glenn Donaldson and Shayde Sartin. If you're into psych-folk these names should already have you on the edge of your seat, and rightfully so. Although very little information has been released about this new project, it seems to promise greatness already. The release date is May 2006 on Kill Rock Stars, with no title or other information available yet. Wooden Wand will also have a new 2xLP/CD called Gypsy Sessions in February on 5RC.

Invisible Pyramid: Elegy Box

There are a few great compilations of music nowadays. Digitalis Gold Leaf Branches. Time Lag/Eclipse's By The Fruits You Shall Know The Roots. And Last Visible Dog's Invisible Pyramid: Elegy Box. Invisible Pyramid overshadows all other compilations, a staggering 6 discs at a monumental 7 and a half hours, 31 of the best psych-folk, drone and experimental artists. A few of the artists off the playlist just to give you a taste of how incredible it is: Birchville Cat Motel, Avarus, Fursaxa, My Cat is an Alien, Black Forest/Black Sea, Steven R. Smith, Keijo, Uton and Es. That's only 9 of the total of 31 artists who contribute to this compilation. Like I said, monumental. My copy arrived on Sunday in the mail and I knew that I was not going to be outside for the rest of the day.

After I had listened to all 7 and a half hours, disc by disc, drone by drone, it was difficult to reflect on such a truly great and important compilation of music and artists. Invisible Pyramid represents to me one of the greatest musical achievements of the era, the equivalent of No Fun Fest or Terrastock. If you're interested in the experimental or the psychedelic, or simply want to get a healthy dose of something new, I highly recommend this. It's only 40 dollars on Last Visible Dog's site(although they're sold out as of two days ago, they say more in early Feb.), and considering the price of music these days that is more than a steal.

I haven't ripped it to my computer because I don't have the HD space, but if I do I will get around to putting up a track. As for now, here are a few mp3s from artists on the comp to peak your interest.

i haven't been here for awhile, but if my data is correct, none of you rapscallions have shown any interest in classic rock. i am here to rectify that, or at least to pay tribute to the music from the decades that shaped how music is played and performed today.

i would like to start with The Grateful Dead.

for those of you who have never listened to American Beauty, the album the Dead released as their first in 1970, you are at a huge loss, musically and emotionally.

perhaps some of the best music i have ever heard, GD covers it all on this beauty, pun intended. they rock out, they jam out, and then they throw in some country. the more well-known songs, like, sugar magnolia, and truckin', are complemented by the lesser knowns, such as 'ripple' and 'attics of my life.' one of my absolute, hands-down favorite songs of all time kicks off the album, a beautiful ballad titled "box of rain." listen to this song as quickly as you can. listen to every word, every chord, every beat. let it take you over and if it doesn't affect you, you are doomed. i'm serious.

if you don't believe me, watch the very last episode of freaks & geeks, which you can pick up in the library. though initally opposed to traditional hippie music, the main character, lindsay weir, gives in after being recommended the record and is completely taken over as soon as she turns it on. it will be one of the best albums you will ever listen to in your life.

unlike most music of today, the combination of incredible sound and phenomenal lyrics will take you to another universe entirely.

the ultimate site to look up or peruse through grateful dead lyrics can be found here. even if the music is too groovy for you, read up on some of the songs and just reflect on the poetry. it's worth it. (upon first discovering the site as a freshman, i used to spend hours of my immense free time just reading lyrics and being completely awe-stricken.)

You know how classical music fans gush over pieces where their favorite artists are all playing in one symphony? Or how, if any of you have heard me talk about avant-jazz, I will sometimes mention my favorite collaborations between artists that I've seen? Badgerlore is the psych-folk equivalent of all of that. Consiting of Ben Chasny(Six Organs of Admittance), Rob Fisk(7 Year Rabbit Cycle) and the recently added Tom Carter(Charalambides) and Pete Swanson(Yellow Swans), this supergroup creates a sound which encompasses all of their relative projects, from Swanson's grating noise processing to Chasny's and Carter's incredible guitar playing. Their most November '05 release, Stories for Owls, is available through Free Porcupine Society and very much worth picking up.

7 Year Rabbit Cycle

7 Year Rabbit Cycle is the brainchild or Rob Fisk and Kelly Goode, both ex-deerhoof. They're an angry, noisy punk/hardcore band, and personally I liked their 2005 release Wind Machine(which featured appearances by Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu and was mixed by John Dieterich of Deerhoof) a whole lot more than I did Runners Four. If you miss the sound of old, spastastic, crazy deerhoof, then checking these guys out is a must. If you just want someone who can really rock, checking these guys out are a must. Their new album Acorns comes out in february, and all signs point to that it will rock. Check out their myspace, and their label, Free Porcupine Society.

There are two bands i think you guys should listen to, and i have no clue whether or not someone's talked about them already, but truth be told, no big to me

The first is these kats called The Blow...

They've got smooth grooves and pwnin lyrics. I can't choose a favorite from their songs simply because they're all ubertasty...buuut, here's a cool lyric from a cool song:

Lullatone - Little Songs about Raindrops

Normally "cute" music is not something I'm partial too, but this album is just too amazing to pass up. What can only be described as incredibly pretty and melodic ambience(or 'pajama pop' by the group themselves, but I'm not really a fan of that term), 'Little Songs about Raindrops' will make you feel like a child playing in the grass all over again. Made by Shawn James Seymour(and now his wife!), it employs simple toy instruments, using them all with a combination of electronic effects to create a beautiful album with an incredibly unique sound. Use this album for napping, or when you feel like being happy and content.

I'm not completely sure who this is by or where it came from, but a friend pointed it out and I'm very much enjoying. It seems to be some sort of test album, but it's about 5 hours of really great experimental and ambient by The Caretaker(though what that is I have no idea). Worth taking a listen to if, even if it's not the whole thing.

Best of '05(finally)...

So Indeed I am finally getting around to doing this whole best of '05 thing, no matter how much of a hassle it may be. Now I never think these lists mean much, as there are a ton of 2005 releases I meant to to listen to but haven't, and I'm sure there a ton which I haven't even heard of and are fantastic, so if something you like is left out, don't be offended, just recommend it. Anyway, the top 25 albums of 2005, as done by me, Linden from Peddie Sounds.

25. Deerhoof - The Runners Four

This album was a mixed bag for me. On one hand, it was a really great album with a ton of incredible jazz hooks and riffs. On the other, it was a departure from the spastic noise-jam fest which I hold on to so dearly. So although this is nowhere near my favorite Deerhoof release, I am still adamant in saying this album deserves almost all the praise it gets, and a spot on every best of list.

24. The Books - Lost and Safe

Incredible experimental pop from two guys who I feel are having some of the most fun making music today. Filled with tons of great samples from whatever these guys have laying around, listening to a Books album can sometimes feel like listening to a lecture, reading a novel and talking to a friend all at once. A great and interesting listen on all levels, musically and intellectually.

23. Brendon Anderegg - Falling Air

Many know Anderegg from his highly acclaimed label apestaartje, but before now he has not put out a release on any other label than his own. On his Psych-O-Path debut, Anderegg slightly departs from his experimental past and shows us that he as well can be a soothing, melodic, and drifting folk singer, while also incorporating elements of glitch, drone, and his usual repertoire. An incredible experimental folk album not to be missed.

22. Raccoo-oo-oon - Cave of Spirits Forever

Incredible album from an incredible band, it was very difficult to pick this over their other 2005 release Is Night People. A sound that cannot be put into words. Find this album and listen to it if you haven't already.

21. John Zorn - Mysterium

John Zorn is a master of his craft. And if I said this album was anything but incredible I'd be lying. Collaborating with 15 artists for 3 seperate pieces, Zorn's composition on this album is some of his best, and this is saying a lot. This album is worth listening for the second track(Frammenti del Sappho) alone, an astoundingly beautiful arrangement for 5 female vocalists that blew me away the first time I heard it. Beautiful stuff.

20. Carlos Giffoni - Welcome Home

Another veteran who finally decided to release an actual album on an actual record label. After seeing Giffoni play with O'Rourke over the summer, I knew that he was serious business. A true electronic noise artist, this album blows you away on one track and then comes right back and does it again. Over and over. And over. And over. and over. and over. You get the point. Giffoni is a treat both live and on record, and this is not to be missed.

19. Boris - Feedbacker

Yes, this is technically a 2003 reissue. But, it's also good enough to be on a best of 2005 list. Parts of this album scream noise, others scream metal. But them together and you have a real masterpiece. One of the most impressive build-ups on any album this year, and fun to listen to.

18. Jackie-O-Motherfucker - Flags of the Sacred Harp

This is a great album because JOM does it all. Traditional folk, brain busting psych folk, and beautiful pieces of drone and stoner rock. A really fantastic album and open to anyone. A great relaxation album, and great for..other activities.

17. Sunn0))) - Black 1

At first I thought this might not be on here simply because of the incredible number of great releases this year. Then I happened to see them live, and all that changed. This album blasts through your ears and puts your brain on hold. Sunn0))) is one of those constants where you can appreciate them staying primarily the same. Some of the most accessible doom metal out there, great album.

16. Diane Cluck - Countless Times

Originally this album dissapointed me. However that's only because I was looking for something a little more along the lines of Oh Vannile! However once I got over my frustration that this was a more traditional album, I actually listened to it and discovered it for what it truly is: beautiful. Diane Cluck is an incredible talent, and what she puts out should not be missed by anyone.

15. Terrestrial Tones - Blasted

Eric Copeland and Dave Portner. Do I need to say much more?

14. Sunset Rubdown - Snake's Got a Leg

Better than Apologies to the Queen Mary, and that's all you really need to know now, isn't it? Wolf Parade/Frog Eyes head dude Spencer Krug takes it to a new level on this part rock, part experimental, part who knows what album. A good thing to be listening to.

13. Jana Hunter - Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom

Thank god Devendra found this girl am I right? More great experimental-folk coming out of the Texas prodigy. One of my favorite debuts of the year, keep an eye on this girl because she is undoubtedly going places.

12. Domotic - Ask for Tiger

I'm not too hip to the pop scene, but this frenchman really does it for me. An experimental pop album that goes beyond just pop, utilizing found sounds, drone, scratchy noise and much more, if this is what pop music of the future sounds like, sign me up. An album anyone can enjoy, and very fun to listen to.

11. Mount Eerie - No Flashlight

Phil Elverum blah blah blah genius blah blah blah I don't think I can say anything that hasn't been said already.

10. Six Organs of Admittance - School of the Flower

Ben Chasney is one of the most talented artists in the experimental folk scene today. Most of what he does is nothing short of brilliant, and School of the Flower definitely qualifies. His first "formal" release, Chasney combines his classic psych-folk style with a bit of traditionalism thrown in to create something unrivaled in beauty. This album gets all my praise and more.

9. Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain

Fuck Bush! Fuck everything! Fuck the war in Iraq! Fuck all that shit! All Lightning Bolt wants to do is break out the fucking jams and rock your face inside out, and that's exactly what they do. As it always say on Lightning Bolt albums, play this LOUD and your senses will be mutilated, in the best sense of the word.

8. Kallikak Family - May 23rd, 2007

I discovered this album very late in the year, and it still nabbed an easy spot in the top 10. Nothing is quite like this. Nothing will ever be quite like this. This album is incredibly enjoyable, while at the same time an incredibly unique outlook on music, and life, and living, and art, and anything else you can think of. If I had been listening to this for longer there's a good chance it would've ended up in the top spot. Can't really say enough about it.

7. Thanksgiving(Parts 1-3)

Adrian Orange is a funny guy. Not only that, but he makes fantastic music which can keep you entertained and entranced. This 3 lp collection has everything from Adrian shredding away on his guitar to make an ear-blasting wall of noise, to him soothing you to sleep. Although it's a very simplistic and accesible listen, I suggest you go in with an open mind, because you'll hear all types of sounds. His live show was also one of my favorites this year, and Adrian is a great artist all around, and this is a great album.

6. Lau Nau - Kuutarha

Finland! Yes! Although I'm only truly getting into the Finnish folk scene recently, this album has been with me for a while, and it can't be described any other way except for beautiful. This album is so diverse, so incredible, and so stunningly simplistic that you may enter a slight state of bliss after listening to it. Even though I couldn't put them all on this list, other artists on the Fonal label should all have some sort of honorable mention.

5. Akron/Family - Akron/Family

These bearded wildmen certainly are making some great music. For 4, sometimes 5, guys who look like they belong more in a bar finishing off a pint than making a psych-folk album, they sure do an incredible job of it. I listened to this album almost everyday over the summer without fail, and it's haunting melodies and beautiful vocals encaptured me everyday without fail. Their live show is also one not to be missed, and as they are touring right now, get yourself to wherever the nearest show they're playing is, it's worth it more than you could ever think.

4. Thuja - Pine Cone Temples

This Jewelled Antler ambient-psych-improv-folk quartet has put out yet another masterpiece. A two disc, almost two hour epic that encaptures everything which is great about Jewelled Antler, this is an album which entrances and forces you to listen, to every subtle change in tone, rhythm, every sound which is manipulated and put into your ears. One of those album which makes you go "Wow..." after giving it a full listen, this is a keystone of the Jewelled Antler discography. Beautiful, haunting, soft, loud, no-wave, all-waves, and sometimes psychadelic, this is an incredible album to listen to.

3. Animal Collective - Feels

What I really, really love about Animal Collective is that they are the one band that can get incredibly popular, but will never lose fans, even those ones that "were listening since Spirit," simply because they are so good, and that's why they get popular. They're not getting popular by selling out or drastically changing the type of music they're making. They're getting popular because if anyone deserves it, they do. A band which deserves every single piece of praise they get, this album only needs one listen to be understood why it's clearly one of the best of the year.

2. Rusty Santos - The Heavens

The first time I heard this album I had no idea who I was listening to, and absolutely no clue that he would quickly become one of my favorite artists of the year. The Heavens is an indescribably good experimental pop album, and you really have to HEAR it before you hear it, if you know what I mean. Check it out before you do anything else, even breath.

1. Gang Gang Dance - God's Money

Beautiful meldoy, tribal rhythms, stunning vocals. Although God's Money is a drastic shift from most stuff GGD had done before, it's really one of the best changes to a more "accessible" form that I've ever seen a band pull off. This album is perfect for every occassion, and no track dissapoints. It moves and swings with every sound, and it's all done seamlessly. Coming from a true experimental/noise band, this album is nothing short of astounding. Everyone should be listening to this, no matter what your musical affiliation is. It's an incredible album, and a great musical achievement on the part of GGD. An album of the year if I have ever seen one.

Anyway that is my take on music in the year 2005. Steven R. Smith - Crown of Marches really should be on there somewhere, but at the sametime nothing on the list deserves to be taken off, so I'm not quite sure what to do. Hope you enjoyed all that.

Social Registry/Gang Gang Dance news...

Oh man, super awesome news. I don't know how I missed this, but I was browsing The Social Registry and looking through their news archive, I happened upon this incredible piece of news from November 27th: "Gang Gang Dance is up for a Plug Award in the "Avant" category. You could vote for them at http://www.plugawards.com/general_vote.php and they would probably appreciate it. They would vote themselves but they are way too busy in the pre-production process on their next record(s?)."

Yes. Gang Gang Dance working on a new record. Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou SO MUCH. There's no release date, no leak, no word on anything really except for a brief clip from some Swedish TV station which is here. Bad news is that their show at Cake Shop on monday was cancelled, but The Social Registry holiday party should still be a lot of fun. I know I'll be there, anyone in the area should try and stop by, they promise it'll be fun. Also, you should check out Samara Lubelski's new album, Spectacular of Passages. I haven't heard it yet, but it looks very good, and of course Social Registry has my highest recommendation.

And if you're not familiar with Gang Gang Dance, God's Money is a definite to check out. You will very soon see it on my Best of '05 list(which will be coming soon).

Sunset Rubdown signs to Absolute Kosher, begins recording..

Wolf Parade is big news nowadays, but what of their keyboardist's(Spencer Krug) little known side project, Sunset Rubdown? Well apparently that's big news also. Most probably haven't heard Sunset's debut album Snake's Got a Leg, but it's an album equally deserving of the praise Hail to the Queen Mary received. It's a little dive into the more experimental side for Krug, but he pulls it off very, very well. Snake's Got a Leg is easily in my top 10, and very much worth checking out. Get it at Global Symphonic.

Akron/Family announces new tour

After seeing Akron/Family on Saturday, I can say there is a new revolution in jam bands. The family put on the best live show I've seen, playing about a 3 hour set, filled with gems from their s/t and their new split with Angels of Light, and it was all incredible. I've always been a fan of their studio stuff, but live they play with a passion and intensity that I've only seen rivaled by Animal Collective. Their show had everything, from chirping toy birds to improv noise jams to doing sing-a-longs in the middle of the crowd, it was all incredible. Not only some of the best performers but some of the friendliest guys I've met, they are worth going to see no matter where you are. Here are the new dates which were announced on their myspace(nothing's been updated on the offical site yet. Shows how trendy MySpace is nowadays...barf.)

After seeing AC a few weeks ago, I cannot tell you how excited I am for this new tour, as I get to see them TWICE on it. Sometimes living in Jersey can be nice, squished in between Philly and New York right there. Although full tour dates haven't been announced, only a few states are off the roster right now, and let's hope for the fans in those states that dates there are announced soon. Tzadik and John Zorn

Yes, even though I would profess myself a lover of avant-garde and experimental music, up until a week ago I had been mostly ignorant of John Zorn and his Tzadik record label. I mean, I'd seen him everywhere(if you've ever browsed the experimental section at Kim's in NYC you know he's impossible to avoid), and I know Merzbow and other artists had put things out on his label, but I never really got into it. Luckily last week I picked up Zorn's newest work, Mysterium. And let me say, my eyes have been opened. Not only is Tzadik the container of an expansive world of free jazz, free and freak folk and avant garde compositions, but most of them are fantastic. This new and old world blend is refreshing, and it's sounds make my ears happy, to be succinct. It would take me a decade to list all of the bands which have been featured on Tzadik, but I'll simply say that you should check out most of them, and something out of their library is a great holiday gift for any avant-friends or people looking for simply beautiful music.

Daft Punk = hip=hop?! --Busta's Single Sampling Daft Punk

As a lover of hip-hop who has been DISGUSTED by the overabundance of Young Bucs and lack of KRS-Ones, Biggies, Cannibuses, and the like, I was pleasantly surprised the other night as I was tuned into hot97. It was a gamble going in, but what I heard amid the awful, uninspired R&B tunes and stereotypical crappy hip-hop was Busta Rhyme's Touch It. Let's be clear: the song isn't deep, and there are no bars(let alone 16) featuring any sort of prophetic wisdom. What the song is, however, is damned good.

Produced by Swizz Beatz, Touch It features a minimalist primal bassline supported by a Daft Punk sample. The words "Touch it, bring it, bay it, watch it, turn it, leave it, stop- format it" from Daft Punk's Technologic are slowwwwwed down and laid over this simple beat. Never in my life did I expect Busta to rhyme over a Daft Punk sample, but he does so with the flava any fan fell in love with him for. For the most part he's controlled and intense, but when the drums kick in and the beat intensifies(if only somewhat) so does he. In other words Busta’s flow is varied, animated, and he brings it back for the hood.

Give this song a shot(!!!) If not for the club-banger potential it has to offer, for the curious combination by which it has been materialized.

ps- Most of the reviews of this song were positive, but there was one review I found completely ripping on the song for the mere idea of Daft Punk and Busta.

Jana Hunter, the woman who I talked about when she did a split with Devendra, has released her new full length on Gnomonsong, the new label which she Devendra and Vetiver co-founded. Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom is a powerful experimental folk album, where each track highlights Jana's amazing voice in some way or another, from the feedback laced"All The Best Wishes" to the acoustic "Have You Got My Money."Although the instrumentals occasionally overpower her, her spectacular voice is able to shine through on every song. This album will hold powerful resonance with today's generation of folk-rockers. My highest recommendation.

Animal Collective announce brief North American tour in '06

This band is so shrouded in secrecy that they don't have a website, you can't buy their albums over the internet or in anyway through the mail(only at distro-x shows), and pictures of them can barely be found. But know that they are wild, crazy, insane noise punk that will leave you dancing your ass off. And I know all this from the few tracks I've heard. Listen to these crazy, crazy bastards.

Don't have time to write so here's a brief synopsis.

"Fast, wild, crazy dance-y punk from Bloomington, Indiana.

i can't tell you anything about this band. they won't let me. they don't even have a band name. they simply say when asked, "we are los gatos negros" (the black cats) because they are black cats. this CD is a special release. it costs only 2.00. however it is only available in person. they refuse to allow this CD to be sold through the mail. i am serious. PLEASE do not try any order this CD. your money will be returned or eaten. the only way to buy this CD is in person from the band, from me in bloomington, or from a plan-it-x touring distro. sorry. if you have any questions about this band you should ask bella.

BSR Radio Sessions

Black Mountain

These Candian rockers are bringing something back to rock and roll that the music industry has not seen in a long time: talent. Hailing from Vancouver, Black Mountain released their epynonymous full-length debut last January, and have been touring in support of it since. Growing out of the late-90s band Jerk with a Bomb, founder Stephen McBean molded his group into what it is now, an acid-blues band with tinges of folk and grunge here and there. Drawing heavily on the work of the infamous Velvet Underground, McBean and Black Mountain have nevertheless managed to cobble together a sound all their own. The most significant, stand-out difference is the presence of a striking female voice providing backing and some lead vocals. Amber Wells's wrenchingly emotive voice adds a whole new dimension to the desperation and depth of these songs.

The epic "Don't Run Our Hearts Around" combines the down-tuned paranoia of early Sabbath with the space-rock meanderings of mid-70s Pink Floyd, with the everpresent introspection of Kurt Cobain himself. With a tip of the hat to the Rolling Stones, "No Satisfaction" is a nice little rocker, and the opening song, "Modern Music" is a bite of the thumb to everything, well, modern. The centerpiece of the album, however, is the incredible "Druganaut." An acid-inspired song if there ever was one, it reminds me of the old adage, "Taking drugs to make music to take drugs to."

They do, indeed, have a MySpace (Here) and their official website (shared with the temporarily disbanded Jerk with a Bomb and McBeans classic rock-esque, lo-fi, equally awesome side project The Pink Mountaintops) resides at this address: Helmut. They just finished the US leg of their "world" tour, gigging with the slightly more known Blood Meridian. (A bunch of their - both bands - guitars and pedals were stolen in NYC). They've just announced the dates for their European tour with Dead Meadow, so if any of you happen to be in Utrecht this Friday, they'll be at the Ekko. Just in case.

The music industry definitely needs more acid-freaks.

Matthew Andrew Hart wants you to listen to good pop music. That's why he makes it. Our Thickness, his most recent release is a fun, poppy album which remembers that good pop music doesn't need guitars or drums or any conventional instruments in general. In fact, with just drum machines and synth for the most part on Our Thickness, it's anything but conventional pop. Hart's lyrics are "poetically poppy", intelligent, and the music is groovy. The Russian Futurists are one of the few artists that can actually make me dance(LCD Soundsystem has nothing on these guys), and if you know me, it's an accomplishment. Another pop group which managed to catch my eye, The Futurists are more than worth checking out.

Domotic is the french experimental artist Stephen Laporte, and his unique blend of pop hooks, sonic landscapes and experimental beats create a noise which is amazing to listen to. His most recent album Ask For Tiger is an amazing foray into the territory of experimental pop, and I'd say it's a great success. Take a listen to this guy, it's enjoyable for anyone.

Tarantula A.D. - Book of Sand

I saw Tarantula A.D. talked about over at Gorilla vs Bear, and decided to give them a listen after seeing that they played with Devendra recently, and that he contributes on this album. Listening to this album all the way through is somewhat like sitting through the LoTR trilogy: very heavy, very epic. Apparently one of "the best live bands ever," Book of Sand will blow you away. Give the entire album a listen with the eplayer.

Animal Collective and related news update...

In most breaking news, Pitchfork put out a brief article detailing the re-release of Animal Collective's Hollindagain, a live vinyl only release. Originally, only around 200 copies had been made and sold at shows. There are also many other bubblings about new AC stuff which is currently in the works.

Terrestrial Tones, which consists of roommates Avey Tare(Dave Portner) of Animal Collective and Eric Copeland of Black Dice, will put out their 5th full length release in March of 2006. Rumor has it that they've taken a hint from African experimental artist Konono No 1 and stepped into the world of experimental "afro-pop." Expect insanity from this great duo.

Ariel Pink's re-release of House Arrest, lauded by some as his greatest album, on paw-tracks will finally arrive January 24th. I don't know if it's just me but it feel like this one's been on the cutting room floor for a damn long time. Ariel Pink is also currently recording a new album and plans on US tours during February and March, with the album release planned for sometime in spring.

Panda Bear(Noah Lennox) of Animal Collective has a single coming out on November 22nd, and is in the process of recording a new album, which I believe is titled 10 Songs, but that's just a vague recollection of an interview I read a while ago, things might've changed.

Fat-Cat and Pawtracks are both having very exciting years and hopefully we continue to see activity from them in the later half of '06.

i just got the Mum cd "Finally We Are Nowhere" and it is spectacular. I wasn't really expecting so much of it, having listened to one or two of their songs before, but a couple nights ago i got the whole thing and it has been the only cd i have been listning to ever since. one of my favorite songs is Green Grass Of Tunnel. mum is icelandic, like Sigur Ros, and they are both similar in the way that theyre both mainly instrumental, but mum are more upbeat. all in all, mum = awesome. Buy their cds now.

Feels and Hypermagic Mountain

I feel bad because I haven't done anything on either Animal Collective - Feels or Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain. But both are amazing, and Feels is by far the most accessible AC album, so if you're still on the fence about them, Feels will be a great album for you. Hypermagic Mountain is....Lightning Bolt. Intense, loud, chaotic, beautiful, by far one of the best albums of this year. Buy Feels on fatcat , and Hypermagic Mountain on Load Records.

Pop(although they call themselves punk, but i've never heard a punk group sound at all like this) groups nowadays either tend to be the exact same as every other deriviative "alt" or "indie" rock band out there. Parenthetical Girls say "Screw off" to any modern convention and take a hint from Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu on how to do true experimental/alt pop nowadays. The frontman of Xiu Xiu actually mixed the second side of their only full album, (((GRRRLS))) an LP only release which has the same 7 songs on each side. However the first side(Side B) is mixed by Jherek Bischoff of Seattle's Degenerate Art Exposure and the second side(Side X) by Jamie Stewart. Both Bischoff and Stewart give a heavily influence to their respective sides, and it makes listening to (((GRRRLS))) a fun and unique experience everytime.

Parenthetical girls have put out two Christmas albums and have been included on some comp albums. Buy their stuff here. Their full discography can be found here, along with various mp3s.

The Double

New York based The Double is has been making amazing music for a good 4 years now while under all our noses. Touring with big bands such as Interpol, Pretty Girls Make Graves and others, The Double are a unique collective whos approach to the freak/psych folk community is not going unheard. Their 2004 release, Palm Fronds, is an all-over-the-place amalgam of traditional pop, freak folk and noise which comes together beautifully in tracks such as "A Throw of Distance" or "Standing on the Levee." I picked up their most recent release(Sept. 13th, 2005) Loose in the Air, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Check these guys out, and go see them with Black Dice this friday in Irving Plaza, NYC.

Acoustic Rock Band
-based in Chicago, Illinois

So recently I moved to Indiana, and figured I have a f'in sweet 30 minute ride to Chicago. I recently have been looking at some local shows and stuff and come across this acoustic rock band Citrus. It's similiar to John "the apocolyps" Mayer, but its better. It probably doesn't concern many people at Peddie because they are centralized in Chicago, but I liked them so I figured I could finally contribute.

It's pretty calm music, growing out from mainstream acousticals. They cover some mainstram stuff, but are mostly original. It's my kind of stuff, tell me what you think. You can find their stuff at Purevolume.

They don't have any shows coming in the near future, but I talked to the guitarist and he's workin on little pub gigs in the Chicago area.

Maybe some of you already know of the showcase due to the fact that Tess Rex's sister's boyfriend, Mikey is the drummer(far right). If you already knew of the band, then you can back me up when I say these guys rock. If you didn't know 'em, then check 'em out! The Showcase is an upbeat alt/emo band based out of East Hanover NJ. They sound like a mix between My Chemical Romance, Dashboard Confessional, and Armor for Sleep. With those bands being mentioned I can already tell this post is going to be frowned upon. heh. But with all serious this band is really good and you should check them out regardless your musical tastes.

The Aphrodisiacs: This is a Campaign

I just found The Ahrodisiacs on Purevolume. They are from the U.K., which is pretty cool because I've always wanted to listen to some different types of music form the U.K. The Aphrodisiacs are a three piece band consisting of twenty year old filthy hippies. I'm posting this, becasue I know alot of you readers love the indie/electronica genre. Therefore, this suits all of you perfectly. I think this band is amazing too, and I do not know how they come up with all these different weird sounds and rhythms. I like it though. I'm hoping that these guys will help put me to sleep tonight. i found out about the thrills yesterday, while i was digging deeper into the lap-pop music (it goes like so, my friend steve was going on about a group that had managed to mix indie and IDM, postal service, and so i fell in love with them...then i fell in love with the genre of popish emoish indieish compogenerated tunes)

Heroic Me: We'll Soar on the Wings of the Angels

Heroic Me is the ideal emo band. Poetic lyrics, synths, tight jeans, cool hair, and Catchy/wining lyrics. What else could an emo kid want? From Birmingham, Alabama, which is not a big emo scene state, Heroic Me knows how deliver...everything. When I first heard them, I thought of some new Underoath music, except without the screaming. The synths are awesome in the "The Ghost and the Angel", so check that out. I was kind of disappointed when I found out that Heroic Me only plays in their homestate, because they could be recieving a lot more publicity if they actually toured a little bit. Hearing that Mirah was on a year-long hiatus from performing was so disheartening. So imagine my pure, unadulterated joy when i heard that Mirah and Marisa Anderson have released a digital-only single called "Nola", and sales of the $5 track go toward hurricane relief.

"The funds generated will be split between the National Youth Advocacy Coalition which [is providing] [more accurate since the organization existed as a support agency long before the hurricanes] support to hurricane displaced LGBTQ (lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer ) youth and families, and The Powerhouse Temple Church in Portland Oregon which [same here] provides direct support to a growing group of hurricane survivors who now call Portland home."

Mount Eerie @ Rodrigue's Cofee House 10/15/05

So I went up to Fordham University in the Bronx last Saturday to go see Thanksgiving/Mount Eerie(opened by American Songs and Cara Beth). Just let me say that this was a more than amazing show. American Songs(a group of guys doing their own thing which traditional style folk songs) and Cara Beth(an incredibly cute girl who feels like the next Mirah on piano, perfect match for Cake Bake Betty) were both fun acts, but nothing could really compare to Thanksgiving or Mount Eerie. I've never been to a more intimate show. About 40 people inside a tiny coffeehouse up in the Bronx. It was pretty much if Phil had played a show right in my living room. Adrien(from Thanksgiving) was one of the most hilarious performers I've ever seen, playing with a guitar strap made of packing tape and what looked like a curtain, occasionally lapsing into these brief states of complete absent mindedness and completely forgetting where he was, what he was doing, or what song he was playing. He got a laugh every minute and played beautifully nonetheless, making up songs about stuff just shouted by people, Phil improvising on the drums as they went along. Most of what was played was stuff of Thanksgiving - Parts 1-3, and let me tell you that this 3 part LP is amazing. Everyone should buy it here(along with other Phil related projects).

Mount Eerie was a whole new kind of amazing. I was sitting about two feet away from Phil, and at times it felt like he was just singing to me. He immediately requested the lights be turned down all the way, to complete darkness. In what he called "darkness deep enough that you don't know who anybody is or what they're doing," we had a few sing-alongs, starting off with The Dead of Night. After playing a few things off 11 Old Songs and No Flashlight(he actually played "No Flashlight" after I asked him the true significance of the words), someone requested "I felt Your Shape pt. 2," and he went off with some Microphones song. Throughout the entire set everyone was asking questions and talking to him, and we all felt really comfortable with him just watching him play. His set was much shorter than I had wished, only an hour, even though when I had talked to him for a few minutes before the show started he said he only had time for a one set show tonight. In that one hour though, I feel like I was on a level with the music that will be very difficult to reach again. The show was amazing, and if you can ever see them I more than recommend it. Currently they only have dates in Washington within the next month, but Phil said something about a brief California tour(lucky westerners). John Ralston: A Side Project

You guys probably have already seen John Ralston in the music business, but you may not have ever recognized him. The truth is, Ralston plays with Chris Caraba from Dashboard Confessional on most of Chris's cds, and in some shows. In fact, when I say Dashboard, Ralston was up there jamming out. Well, what I'm getting it is he nows has a solo project. When I first found out about I didn't even bother giving up my hearing to listen to Ralston, because I thought that he would be exactly like Caraba. I thought it would be the same emotional lyrics and soothing vocals. However, Ralston is different, he is more experimental. The sound is nowhere near that of Dashboard or The Honorary Title. His voice is soothing, but John can still get his volume. Some his songs have acoustic driven choruses, and others include drums, bass, ad piano. I personally like it better with the whole nine yards. You can download all of Ralston's music at John Ralston.Com. He is also tourning now, but not in New Jersey...Sorry :( Yeah, so download John Ralston's music and check it out, the cd is called Neddle Bed. Also, on the website check out his lyrics, because they are different and wierd and full of good metaphors and symbols.

I was just listenin to some music during study hall, and wandered back to my good friend Kid Koala, this maybe an obvious fact, but he pretty much rocks the socks. A jazzy mix of breakbeats, and good old fashion scratchin. A little Dj Shadow-esque. Not sure how much music youll be able to listen to of his online, but you can rip my/linden's/others itunes for it.

Emmy visited home this weekend, and brought me some cool cds, so two shout outs. One to Victory At Sea, and the other to The Cricket Rumor Mill. I really like Victory at sea, they have a little bit of a grungey sound, which is pretty off of what they actually sound like. Im not good at comming up with well defining descriptions, so apologies. The Cricket Rumor mill is mostly insturmental, sort of Mogwai-ish I guess. Eitherway, both bands are good. Listen.

Canada is just brimming to the top with good music, in pretty much any genre. In the past few days I've discovered two great Canadian indie-popish-with-a-slight-twist bands. P:Ano, a quartet out of Vancouver, sounds like somebody spliced The Microphones, The Fiery Furnaces and Olivia Tremor Control all onto one tape and released it as these guys. Don't think they're derivative though, every song of theirs I've listened to has something new.

"While it may sound as though the Vancouver outlet dresses a Polyphonic Spree like menagerie for their spectacle, Brigadoon is the sound of but four people who somehow manage to mash up all manners of percussion, guitars, wind instruments, and piano/organ in a truly ecletic but far from innacessible work of pop art." - Tiny Mix Tapes

Give these guys a listen, because Canada is awesome! And socialized healthcare is all the rage nowadays.

As of right now they don't have any confirmed tour dates or anything, but if that changes soon you'll know.

The Runners Four

I have almost nothing to say about this album, because words cannot come close to describing how happy I am that I got this. Deerhoof's new album, The Runners Four is much different sounding than their previous work, and there is nothing wrong with that. I was a huge fan of Deerhoof before this album, but what changes on this album is that they really are a pop band now. On tracks like "Wrong Time Capsule" and "Scream Team" elements of the old Deerhoof are there, but listening to these guys feel like a whole new band. If you didn't listen to Deerhoof before because you didn't find them "accessible," now is the time to do so. For those of you who are afraid that this new sound will ruin them, don't be. They're still the same old Deerhoof, but don't expect any "Nobody Fed Me So I Stayed" on this album. Still fantastic though. Snap this up while it's hot.

The Inoutinout: The What??

Yes, it's a great name and a great band. The InoutInout is from Freehold, New Jersey, and each member has been in the New Jersey Local/Underground scene for a while now. A member is the former drummer of Forever's End. And the synthesizers player, Brett, played for No Hollywood Ending, I'm not really sure if he is still in it though. Anyway, they are all extremely kind people and easy to get a long with. In fact, Brett gave his microphone to me and a couple of friends at a No Hollywood Ending show once. And I just recently talked to Darman at the mall a couple days ago; Soooooo chill. But let's get down to the music. These guys know how to rock out from playing in their past bands. Their songs are in such an order that IT is rare to find. With trippy synths and just dancing drum beats make the Inouinout what they are...stellar. "The Evidence", their first song has such an opening that it made me stop doing homework and just listen...closely. It was great, that's never happened to me before. There is only one song on Purevolume, but they said they have a couple of new ones out for us to here. The Inoutinout is playing a show this Saturday at Prince of Peace...cannot wait. And they are playing with Wake Me When I'm Dead, Scar the Ghost, and You Lose. It's going to be intense. Make sure you guys get out there and give The Inoutinout the respect that they deserve,and buy t-shirts, buttons, and stickers if they have any, so they could use the $$ for gas money, because gas is so ridiculous now. DO IT!

Sun Kil Moon - Tiny Cities Made of Ashes

Tiny Cities Made of Ashes, Sun Kil Moon's Modest Mouse cover album is actually the first I've ever heard of Sun Kil Moon. And I'm very, very pleased. These covers are so distinctly different from the original songs that it's refreshing, what with the overkill of Modest Mouse nowadays. Losing that angry edge that the Mouse has in some of songs it's a great change of pace and one that makes you feel like you're not even listening to a cover album, but something completely new. If you're a Modest Mouse fan, or a Sun Kil Moon fan, or just a general indie rock fan, get this album. Get it now. It is pleasing on all levels.

Eric's Trip

Eric's trip is a retired noise-ish pop band from Canada who used to be on SubPop. As far as I know they've only released four full length albums, Forever Again, Love Tara, Purple Blue, and Long Days Ride Till Tommorow, and I managed to get my hands on copies of two of them(Forever Again and Love Tara) and both are awesome. According to their discography they've put out a myriad of 7" and tracks on comp albums, but I couldn't find them anywhere and I doubt many people could. If you manage to find copies then more power to you(and share please!).

Listening to Eric's trip is a bit like having a warm blanket next to fireplace and having hot chocolate with someone you love. It's just heartwarming. Tracks like "My Chest is Empty" on Forever Again are reminiscent of The Microphones on Little Birdy Fly and others feel like Deerhoof just without Satomi going crazy on vocals. According to Rick White(their guitarist/vocalist) they play "sappy melodic pop on top of thick distortion." To sum up their sound even more succinctly: Good. Listen to this band and try and find all their albums.

Jim O'Rourke finds box of tapes, soon to release new album

Looking at Tiny Mix Tapes today I saw a big front page article on how Sonic Youth's new LP Sonic Life is going to be recorded without Jim O'Rourke. So that's a little bit of bad news, but at the very bottom there was a little to link to this article at ontonson on how O'Rourke is releasing an album that he found in a box of tapes in 2003 which were from 1986-1991. Apparently he's come to terms with these recordings which he hated in his earlier years. The article explains it a bit better. Anyway I'm excited.

This LP ships on October 16th from Ontonson.

Neutral Milk Hotel + Other E6 artists free bootlegs!

So I was very bored during math class(great time for blogging I find) and reading through pretty much every link that was on YANP's blog links, and came upon An Aquarium Drunkard, who also happened to comment on us after YANP linked to the blog. Anyway, he has a Neutral Milk Hotel bootleg up from San Fran in '98, which was up on the Elephant 6 website, so I went over there to see what else I could fine. Incredibly enough I found a HUGE COLLECTION OF BOOTLEGS. Honestly this is awesome. Everything on this website is awesome. Demos and bootlegs of Apples in Stereo, Beulah, Elf Power, Of Montreal, Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control and others. So if you like any band of Elephant 6 check that out because there's tons of great stuff there. Big shout out to An Aquarium Drunkard for tipping me off to that even though he doesn't know it.

Right now I'm listening to 'When the Sun Shone on Vetiver' from Rejoicing in the Hands. Its making me think about the love I have for Devendra Banhart and Young God Records in general. If you don't listen to him then you need to. He's a hippie (or at least he sounds like one): homeless, voice straining in English and his mother-tongue, Spanish.
The new Cripple Crow site (http://www.cripplecrow.com/) is up so check it out. If you're feeling particularly adventurous you can enter some contest to get your face on the vinyl. I personally, would love nothing more than to see Linden or Jel embracing the sun Cripple Crow scrawled underneath. Meanwhile, thanks to The Believer: Music Issue, I have this track of Devendra covering Antony & The Johnsons. I use this as a cheap ploy to lure all you Antony fans in and also it just came on ipod shuffle. alas.
